Crimson Sands

what's That, on the Dunes

While it may be beautiful and elegant in it's own way, the desert that is the Crimson Sands is not something to be taken lightly. Many have either returned with damages everlasting, stories of terrors normally unseen, or never return at all and are forgotten.

But the inhabitants have learned to respect the sands and work with it, how to tame it in a way so that nature may go on while the natives benefit as well. They have perfected their strategies over the years, and know how to avoid untimely demises by the sands, but they can only do so much to prevent fools who call for their own disappearances.

Never disrespect the very things that match your blood.

Listen, and be careful

The Nagas have taken many experiences and apply what they've learned over the years. They make use of camels, taken oasis's they've found and turn them into pit stops, made maps of extreme accuracy, and even make flare signal like tools for emergency rescues.

People are educated heavily on what to look for, what to avoid, and what to do and not to do if they travel the dunes. They especially 'suggest' outsiders to take these lessons before messing about. They'd rather not have bodies on their hands.

The Desert Gives

One would think there wouldn't be much commerce for a land that can hardly give life. But the Nagas have worked around this.

They have made plots of land that are fertilized by forced means, making crops that are abundant in water, like melons and edible cacti. Under these lands are surprisingly hollow, and excavates fantastical gems and ores while looking for water sources.

But what they truly excel at, making special metals using the forge that is their volcano.

A Shared Fate

The Mermaids had an unfortunate disaster shake their kind, the eruption of Mount Onyx and the destruction of one of their settlements. That was one side of the story, the other side is another story of loss from the Nagas. A similar thing happened, of having a village nearer to the volcano than is what's currently documented.

The name of this village has long since been forgotten, the initial awakening of the volcano having wiped out the entire population with a blast that burned them all to death, and then subsequently buried in lava. No one knew that this mountain, was one filled with rage, and lashed out without reason.

The Nagas mourned their people burned away but knew that something must be done. The burning blood of the world has made itself known and they did not have plans to allow such a thing to happen again. It must be controlled.

It took time, and some more lives for the mountain, but the Nagas completed one of the largest achievements on the island yet, they turned the volcano into a forge. They had already dabbled in this art previously, but now this makes their art legendary, using the heat of the earth. The volcano had been mined into and punctured, allowing for vents for the lava to spill from and keep the pressure low, to surely keep from erupting again.

They built channels for a good portion of the lava to flow, channels covered and heated by it's own power to keep it fresh and reach Calkerum. There blacksmiths make use of the lava for their work before the lava harmlessly flows into the sea.

Mount Onyx bends to their will alone.
